New York Giants Season Preview – NFL Betting 2022-23

The New York Giants will look to bounce back this season as they hope for their offseason to lead them back to the postseason. New York is coming off another disappointing season, which saw them change their GM and coaching staff. The Giants will look for the young players and veterans of this team to gain chemistry as they try to build up a strong contender.

New York is in the bottom 10 of teams odds to win the Super Bowl and are expected to finish last in their division. The Giants will compete in a solid NFC East from a season ago. The Dallas Cowboys and Philadelphia Eagles both made the postseason last year. The Washington Football Team finished only two games out of a wild card spot as well.

The Giants made sure to focus on their holes this offseason adding players like offensive lineman Max Garcia, defensive tackle Justin Ellis, and return specialist Richie James. New York also drafted right tackle Evan Neal and linebacker Kayvon Thibodeaux in the first round. The Giants will look for these players to make an immediate impact in the lineup.

New York Giants 2021-22 season review

New York finished last season with a record of 4-13, which had them in last place of the division. The Giants had Daniel Jones start 11 games last season, going 4-7. Mike Glennon and Jake Fromm both started after Jones got injured, but neither could muster a win. Jones will look to step up and remain healthy this season.

The Giants struggled heavily in divisional play last season, going 1-5 against their rivals. New York’s only win came against the Philadelphia Eagles in a defensive showdown. The Giants were outscored 416-258 throughout last season. New York’s biggest issue was their offense, which finished 31st in points scored.

Struggling offense

The Giants will look for Daniel Jones to take a step this season at quarterback. Jones threw for 2428 yards, 10 touchdowns and 7 interceptions in his starts last season. He also rushed for 298 yards and 2 touchdowns. Jones has been up and down in his career, but has shown signs of being a solid starter in this league.

New York brought back a solid receiving core from a season ago. The Giants have Kenny Golladay, Kadarius Toney and Sterling Shepard at receiver. Golladay led the team in receiving yards last season with 521, while Toney had 420 yards. New York has a competition at tight end between free agent Ricky Seals-Jones and 4th round pick Daniel Bellinger.

The Giants will look for Saquon Barkley to step up this season. Barkley rushed for 593 yards and had 263 receiving yards last season. New York also brought in Matt Breida this offseason to help lighten the load. The Giants also added Evan Neal, Mark Glowinski and Max Garcia to bolster their offensive line.

Solid defense

New York’s front seven welcomes the addition of Kayvon Thibodeaux at linebacker this season. The Giants also added defensive tackle Justin Ellis from the Baltimore Ravens. These two will join Dexter Lawrence, Leonard Williams, Tae Crowder and Azeez Ojulari in what could be a great front seven.

The Giants secondary still seems a bit weaker, but they found some success last season. New York lost James Bradberry at cornerback, which leaves Aaron Robinson and Adoree’ Jackson as their top two corners. Julian Love and Xavier McKinney made a solid safety duo last season and will look to build on it entering the new campaign.

New York’s defense struggled a bit last season, but that had a lot to do with the offense’s inability to stay on the field. The Giants gave up 6032 yards from scrimmage last season, which was 21st in the NFL. New York’s passing defense was 15th in the yards against, while their rushing defense finished at 25th.

Buy into New York’s improvement

The Giants have made a lot of good decisions this offseason to not overhaul the entire team, but to instead focus on patching up the holes. I really like the addition of Brian Daboll, who had a lot of success in Buffalo the last few seasons. New York’s offense is looking healthy and with an improved front seven on defense, I think they can remain competitive.

New York’s schedule starts out on the weaker side with winnable games against the Panthers, Bears, Ravens, Jaguars and Seahawks all before their bye week. The Giants have five divisional games in the second half of the season, but I expect them to improve in divisional play. New York will also play the Texans and Lions at home after their bye.

The Giants are listed at either 7 or 7 ½ wins this season. I think New York has done a great job filling out the roster with a mix of veterans and young players. The Giants offensive line has a lot of depth now and will likely improve, which could help take pressure off the offense. I think the Giants will take some big steps and finish at least in the running for a playoff spot.
